SAMR Mission: Increase the number and diversity of students who choose, stay with, and succeed in Engineering and Applied Science Career Paths.
from the meeting of April 27, 2006

Recommendations: The goals are to:

• Ensure that students feel welcome in STEM courses
• Ensure that students have awareness & understanding of all available options
• Eliminate or reduce income barriers
• Allow incremental course choice as well as an academy choice at the transition to High School.

The strategies are to:

• First priority, focus on grades 9 and 10 - students, teachers, and counselors - to educate and advocate for career awareness and course choice. Try to get more students into Algebra and higher levels of math and science in grades 11 and 12.
• Focus on Middle Schoolers global awareness of college and career possibilities, and general levels of academic achievement.

The tactics are under discussion.
